Fordite, also known as Motor Agate, was made years ago, by the no longer used practice of hand spray-painting multiples of cars in automotive factories. The over-sprayed paint in the painting bays gradually built up into thick colorful layers. These layers were hardened in the ovens that the car bodies were baked to cure the paint. Crafts people soon discovered these rock hard chunks in the trash, This piece came from the Jeep factory—thus “Jeepite”
